Club Night is going to be your new favorite with “Rally”

Coming through a whirlwind of pop-fueled chaos, Oakland’s Club Night is releasing their debut EP next month and it’s already beginning to seem like a new favorite. The first single, “Rally”, is a wonderful construct of hook melody and scoping noise, primarily through the use of distortion and feedback. It hangs in the background as an extension to the track, adding a heavy depth to the irregular guitar notes. Despite the levels of experimentation, the single is very cohesive, filtering indie rock through a virulent punk filter. Club Night manages to keep the energy going throughout the brief runtime and give the listener a lot to sink their teeth (ears) into.

The guitar rhythm comes in with careful ease, doing all but gliding the introduction along. Vocalist Josh Bertram begins almost like a ghost, performing with these haunting echoes as the track continues along at an easy pace. There’s a muffled quality to his voice here that is of contrast to the brightness of the guitars, although it’s quickly overshadowed by the rolling snare which throws the track on overdrive. There’s similarities here with Titus Andronicus’ debut LP, keeping an indie sound that feels strange to call classic but is certainly established, allowing them to play with the genre and mold it into something unique.

Hell Ya is due out on 08/25 and is available for pre-order here.
